Welcome to Sensory Squad!

Experience compassionate, expert care with one of NYC's trusted in-home pediatric occupational therapists

Hi, I’m Alicia!

My name is Alicia Meehan, and I am the proud owner and operator of Sensory Squad. I have been a registered and licensed Occupational Therapist for six years, with experience working in preschools, elementary schools, sensory gyms, the Early Intervention setting, and as a full-time caregiver for two children with special needs. I am proud to bring the extensive knowledge I have gathered from each individual setting and apply it to building a private practice that puts the needs of each child and family above all else.

As a neurodiversity-affirming therapist, I value and respect each child's individuality. My goal is to create an environment tailored to support their strengths and unique needs. I take a play-based and strengths-based approach to therapy, specializing in sensory integration techniques and working closely with families to help children achieve a consistent state of regulation.

In addition to supporting regulation, I prioritize activities of daily living (ADLs)—such as building routines for home and school, feeding, and dressing—so children can develop further independence. I believe that collaborative goal-setting with families ensures we are maximizing the benefits of occupational therapy and making meaningful progress that is visible in everyday life.

Testimonials

Alicia is truly a unicorn of a therapist.  She has been supporting both of my sons, and truly our entire family, for the past years.  She has helped both of them develop their fine and gross motor skills, emotional regulation, social confidence, and executive functioning skills.  Perhaps even more importantly though, she has done this in a way that has helped them to better understand themselves and their sensory needs in a strength-based way.

Alicia is the epitome of a neurodiversity-affirming therapist.  As a Mom who really values this, I know how hard it can be to find providers who walk-the-walk.  Alicia does.  Her sessions always prioritize connection over compliance, regulation over demands, and individualization over generic activities.

Whenever Alicia enters a home (regardless of whether she meets a child who is happy or struggling) she brings cheerful, playful, and unwaveringly positive energy with her.  She handles PDA, big emotions, and stress responses from kids without skipping a beat. When your child is with Alicia, you can trust that they will be safely supported, playfully engaged, and genuinely cared for.

Alicia has been an integral part of my child’s development for the past 3.5 years. My sensory seeking daughter lacked the ability to self-regulate her body. Within a few months of working with Alicia I saw enormous growth in her physical and emotional being. I stopped receiving calls from school and her teachers could not believe her rapid growth in such a short span of time.

Alicia has mastered how to work with children by tailoring therapy to the child’s individual needs. She is skillful in incorporating techniques that are both playful and challenging. And does so with unwavering patience.

My daughter cannot wait to see Alicia each week and I cannot thank her enough for the work she has accomplished with my daughter.
